ISO 45001 and BizSAFE STAR overlap heavily, so the choice usually comes down to whether your next contract is local or international.
It is rarely a question of safety rigour: both demand a working management system, not a binder on a shelf.
BizSAFE is a Singapore programme run by the Workplace Safety and Health Council. STAR, its highest tier, certifies your management system against SS 506 Part 1. ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems, recognised worldwide.
Because SS 506 Part 1 maps closely onto ISO 45001, most companies pursuing both should build one management system and certify it against both standards. Duplicating documentation is the expensive mistake here: two manuals drift apart, and the second audit finds the gap.
The practical sequence is to build the system to ISO 45001 structure, certify to whichever standard your nearest contract requires, then add the second certification at the next surveillance cycle.
Neither certification substitutes for the WSH Act. Both are frameworks for meeting your legal duties in a way you can demonstrate to a client or an auditor.
We deliver both pathways and the integration between them. See our ISO 45001 certification service and BizSAFE STAR consultancy, or ask us which fits your situation.
